The El Casino Ballroom has been the site of many historic KXCI shows in our 25 year history - and we’re going to add to that legacy this Sunday with a FREE CONCERT from 3 to 8pm. Featuring Al Perry, Big Galoot, Shrimp Chaperone and Kevin Daly’s Chicken and Waffles. All ages welcome, come for an hour or for the whole day. We’ll be selling our exclusive and cool 25th anniversary t-shirts, previewing some auction items, eating some anniversary cake (also free!!) and just having one heck of a great time. Thanks for all the well wishes about our daughter’s birth. We were very lucky to have a fairly easy delivery. Ihad a c-section with our son, two years ago, and was really hoping to avoid a repeat C, and was fortunate in being able to do so. I did a lot more preparation for this birth than I did for our son’s (I’m embarrassed to admit I hadn’t really entertained the idea of a c-section when pregnant with him; I was pretty naive about that.) My friend Patty was our doula and having her support before, during, and after the birth was more helpful than I can explain. I had so many fears, especially in the couple weeks before labor started, and Patty and I talked about them regularly which, in retrospect, was a key part of preparing for labor.

While at TMC, we heard from various people that the hospital was considering changing its policy on VBACs. I know it’s a slightly riskier situation, but still, man, it is so much easier recovering from this birth, and the delivery was really straightforward and pretty easy. I hate to think that a woman wouldn’t have an opportunity to pursue this option if she were interested.

I look forward to following her as she pursues a higher-level job in academia.

Craig Schumacher is celebrating 10 years of Wave lab recording.   He and Nick Luca will be joining me on Starrtracks this monday from 6-8pm. Craig will be bringing in a comprehensive representation of the evolution of Wavelab recordings.  Just as a refresher reminder for you guys….. recordings include Neko Case, Calexico, Giant Sand, Devotchka, Steve Wynn, Luca, Richard Buckner, Iron and Wine, Ladybug Transistor……the list goes on and on.  Not only are Craig and Nick masters at what they do, as many of you know, they are both wonderful to speak to…informed, funny…etc. etc.   I have no doubt that it will be a fine show.

Make Way for the 5th Annual Story Town!

Meet Maya & Miguel, Curious George and Clifford at Make Way for Books’ 5th Annual Story Town from 11 am to 4 pm in Jácome Plaza on Saturday, November 15. There will be free books, live performances of your favorite childrens books, music and dancing and more!

Each year the plaza in front of the main library transforms into Story Town – where costumed characters from your favorite children’s books stroll around and library staff give live performances of beloved children’s books. Free parking is available in the garage under the Main Library.

This family literacy festival for children ages 3 to 12 is presented by Make Way for Books, an organization that promotes early literacy in southern Arizona, and the Pima County Public Library. This year’s event is sponsored by the Tohono O’Odham Nation, the Friends of the Pima County Public Library and KUAT 6.

I can now go into labor, knowing our child will be born into a world of hope. (Or I can at least go to sleep more peacefully tonight…)
