Children’s film festival

This looks great!!! Flawless–10am in summer–pre-naptime, just when you’re getting stir crazy in the house, just when it’s officially too hot to play outside…and it’s FREE. (And if you’re not opposed to having a beer before noon, mama and daddy can sip some summer ale while watching Willa Wonka. Dude.)

For your weekend consideration:
Solstice celebration at UA this Saturday afternoon/evening.
Roller derby on Saturday night! Vice Squad vs Iron Curtain and Furious Truck Stop  Waitresses vs Copper Queens. And best of all, music by Mr Scratchy Records himself, DJ Carl Hanni. Fun stuff!
And don’t forget your outdoor movies–tonight is Pillow Talk and next Thursday is Gentlemen [...]

Free/cheap summer fun

June 4th, 2008 · No Comments

Don’t forget the outdoor movies at Cinema La Placita! It’ll be a few years before our kid is able to stay awake for them, and I know they’re not necessarily “family friendly” selections every week, but it’s such a fantastic event. Maybe a good, cheap date night, when you have relatives around who can look [...]

So it could be the opportunity for one last weekend outside, perhaps. Botanical Gardens? Park? What do you all have going on this weekend? Any good events I [...]

No more drive ins?

May 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments

This makes me really sad.
I was looking forward to going to the drive-in as a family. I love that Tucson has a drive-in, and it’s such a fun thing to do on summer nights.
As if we need one more retail center around here…
Maybe we need to start a Save the De Anza campaign?

Tomorrow night is the first Cinema La Placita screening of the season. This beloved outdoor film series, which began in 2000 (has it been that long? amazing!!)  runs May through October. Movies roll every Thursday night around 7:30pm in the La Placita plaza which is the brightly-colored group of buildings surrounding a courtyard on the [...]

Don’t forget…

January 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments

…the “Business of Being Born” screening this weekend.
2pm on Saturday, DuVal auditorium, University Medical Center.
Here’s a review (thanks, Brett!) which manages to discuss the quality of the movie rather than the pros and cons of homebirth.
I’m looking forward to seeing this–thanks to Melissa for her efforts in bringing the movie to Tucson. It has a [...]
