TUSD open enrollment…and preschool too!

December 8th, 2013 · 3 Comments

the deadlines looms (December 16) for TUSD open enrollment.

I know a lot of people are still trying to make decisions about enrollment for Fall 14.

Would you be willing to answer questions about your kid’s school? If so, chime in here, in comments, or on the Facebook page, so that readers can contact you with questions (or post them publicly so that all can benefit).

There are no right answers for the choices–more “what is the best decision for my family based on what I know now about my kid and x school”.

Also, some of you are deciding between home school/magnet/charter/private, so talk about that here too, if you like.

I’m happy to talk about our experiences at Davis Bilingual Magnet, as well as our preschool experiences at Strauss ECE, Desert Spring, and St. Mark’s….

Discuss away! Here’s my bit of advice: pick two non-negotiable factors and decide based on that. Of course, things can change (for example, our son’s school–Davis–was at risk for losing its magnet status, which means he’d not be able to go there)…but you have to make a decision on what you know right now about your kid, and about the schools you’re considering. You don’t know any more than that and as I said, things change (the schools AND our kids….)

Hi TucsonMama. I am thinking about keeping my daughter at St. Mark’s for kinder, then doing the open enrollment for 1st. Is it more difficult to “win the lottery,” so to speak, if you start the process for 1st grade? I figured you would be the best person to ask!

    Hi Natalie!!!
I don’t know, actually. Anyone else? My guess is there’s always a bit of movement after kinder, so there are a few spots in a class, but certainly the chances of getting one of a handful of open spots is lower than the chances of getting one of 50 spots (if there are two kinder classes, for example). What first grades are you considering?
Clementine LOVES St Marks kinder, I must say….
