Opens on Saturday! Free admission, free popcorn, every day for over a week!
This free film festival, sponsored this year by Cox, takes place at the Loft. It’s hands-down one of our favorite events of the summer. And this time it’s benefiting one of the neediest agencies in Southern Arizona, the Diaper Bank. (Bring an unopened, unwrapped diaper donation to any screening and you’ll be eligible for a fabulous raffle prize)
The first Sunday’s screening of Dinotrux, with book giveaways, sounds promising. Lincoln’s been way into the Dinotrux book lately…
I’m excited about Coppola’s The Black Stallion, and the closing Sunday’s Adventures of Prince Achmed, the first full-length animated film, from the 1920s–accompanied by live musicians! Here’s what the Loft has to say about this film:
THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED with live music score by Miles and Karina
(1926, 66 min., Germany, silent, animated, not rated / all ages)
The world’s first full-length animated film is an enchanting masterpiece of pure cinematic magic, featuring hand-cut silhouettes of elegant and intricate design. Taken from The Arabian Nights, the film tells the story of a wicked sorcerer who tricks Prince Achmed into mounting a magical flying horse which sends the rider off on a flight to his death. But the prince foils the evil plan and soars headlong into a series of wondrous adventures, joining forces with Aladdin and the Witch of the Fiery Mountains, doing battle with the sorcerer’s army of monsters and demons, and falling in love with the beautiful Princess Peri Banu.
See you there!
