The Commission on the Status of Women and the University of Arizona is pleased to present the
6th Annual Young Women’s Empowerment Academy.
When: Saturday March 17, 2012, 8:30am to 3:00pm
Where: The Tucson Room of the Student Union Memorial Center on the campus of the University of Arizona
This event is free and open to all young people ages 13-17 and offers workshops and activities that will inspire and empower them to become successful in their own lives. This year’s theme is “Destination: Success!” and is focused on character building, empowerment and communication with emphasis on issues and topics affecting young women.
This year our youth workshops are:
Healthy Body Image and Self-Esteem, presented by Alison Greene and Monica Davis of the Southwest Institute for Research on Women, University of Arizona.
Presenting Your Best Self, presented by Christina Standifer, EnHaus, LLC.
We Can Stop Bullying Now!, presented by Sheri Bauman Ph.D, Director of the School Counseling Master’s Degree Program, Dept. Of Education, University of Arizona.
Creepy or Cute, presented Erin Strange, Campus Health, University of Arizona

A light lunch will be served for the youth participants.

In addition to the youth workshops, there will be a morning only workshop from 8-11:30 am for Parents and Caregivers. The workshops are:
Current Issues facing Young Women with respect to Alcohol and Other Drugs, Presented by Assistant Chief Leavitt, Tucson Police Department
College Maze Dayz: Providing Important College Knowledge, Information for Families, presented by Rudy McCormick, the Office of Early Academic Outreach, University of Arizona.
Residence Life Dorm Tour, guided by Pam Obondo, Residence Life, University of Arizona.

    Maybe a bit young but Francesca is showing signs of knowing a lot more than I did at her age…YIKES!
