This fabulous essay on the current Tiger Woods-and-his-ladies scandal introduces you to two of my favorite writers: the essay’s author, Jill Soloway, wrote a hilarious book Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants–great collection of short nonfiction pieces (I’ve given this several times as gifts to friends). And in her essay on Tiger Woods, she quotes the brilliant and scary Mary Gaitskill, author of many deadly good short stories, fiction that makes you more than a little uncomfortable.
Thoughts on the Soloway article?
And other writers who make you sit up and pay attention these days?

Thanks for the link! I loved that article. Haven’t been paying much attention, though Tiger has made headlines in SA.
I appreciate Soloway’s perspective and her realization that the “other” women might be human too with desires, aspirations and delusions. There is a definite gendered power dynamic going on here (and in all the other big blow-up infidelity stories.)
I think the American notion of monogamy is a bit off and too inflexible for real life… and in every single one of these big “cheating” situations, I think the lying about said associations and not recognizing the needs that drive their pursuit is much more destructive then sleeping around outside your marriage.
I think I need to checkout Soloway’s book. Thanks for the recommendation!
