Max and the Diaper Fairy – Book Giveaway!

November 26th, 2009 · 9 Comments

At the Diaper Bank’s first annual Stroll & Roll I got talking with one of the vendors. A local Arizona mom, Melissa Hart, is doing her bit to help families with the trials and tribulations of potty-training and at the same time share the importance of diaper banks with a brand new children’s book called Max and the Diaper Fairy.

Max and the Diaper Fairy is a sweet book with a clear message about the sometimes difficult transition out of diapers and into big kid underpants. My toddler sat quite happily listening to me read it and then checking out the pictures by herself; always good testament to how engaging a book is.

Melissa gave us a copy which we’re putting up for grabs. Just share the most awkward diaper or potty training related mishap you’ve had in the comments, or perhaps a potty-training tip and we’ll draw a winner on December 12th.

Cheers,
Tucson Mama Sidekick

There we were, just me, the underwear bandit, and every other child and teacher in daycare sitting and listening to the children’s Shabbat service on a Friday morning. The UB, who is fully capable of peeing in the potty, was wearing underwear (something his teachers are brave enough to attempt on occasion) and sitting on a chair next to me. When suddenly he looked down and his pants and shoes (and the chair he was sitting on) were wet! I hustled him to the bathroom to do a quick change into a diaper and new shorts and then back in time for challah and juice. As we were walking up the stairs I said ‘So, next time you need to pee and are wearing underwear, what are you going to do?’ He opened his big blue eyes, looked at me innocently and said ‘What?’

We have a very long way to go.

E’s daycare provider suggested letting him go with no diaper and no underwear so he really understands there’s nothing there. Since then we’ve had some more success, but we are moving very, very slowly.

I have spent hours reading poop books with my son at his friend’s house as my son is inspired by his friend who already is potty trained. At least there is interest….

We have a baby at home and aren’t ready for potty training yet…I’m hoping using cloth diapers will get our little one ready for potty training earlier. Any tips or techniques?

JK, our eldest was ready to potty train at about 19mths which I put down to cloth diapering. The youngest is more reluctant. Hope it is okay to have no terrible tale to tell or tip, but just to say pick me.

Katie, of course you don’t have to have a terrible tale or fabulous tip.
Hell, I don’t have one either.
Wait, I do have a story about sticking my finger down Linc’s shorts to see if his diaper was wet from playing in the water at school and lo there was a poo.

In any case–please feel free to leave a comment if even if you don’t have anything profound or profane to share–you can still be eligible to win the book!

When my first was training he did really well with pee but always wanted a diaper to poop in (SO frustrating!) but I got accustomed to being able to put him in underwear and head out of the house. So one day (in rainy Portland) I took him to an indoor play gym (indoor gym with toys, bikes, and little kids everywhere) to play. He was wearing the gerber training pants and has skinny legs…

He pooped. Little pellets of poop fell out of his pants and onto the gym floor. I was HORRIFIED! I grabbed him and the pellet of poop with a wipe that I had in my bag and ran to the bathroom to change him.

We came back into the gym and I thought I was in the clear, only to realize that there was more poop that I had not noticed. And! A kid rode a bike right through it, so now it was smeared all over the gym floor! I cannot even tell you how horrifying this was for me, and I wanted to help clean it up but they wouldn’t let me. So the lady comes with her long bio-hazard gloves and disinfectant spray to clean and sanitize everything while I took deep breaths and tried to tell myself that it was not a big deal…

    Ah, motherhood…

We are currently suffering through what we have deemed poopie-gate in our household. It is a terrible scandal indeed… on the outside we pretend that our 2.5 year-old is truly potty trained, but the reality is that the poor thing is too terrified to poop in the potty so we have to give her a diaper to poop in. To make matters worse, in the past week or so she has decided that she is too big for diapers, but is still afraid to poop on the potty so now she will just hold it for waaaay longer than she should. We have resorted to kiddie fiber gummies in an attempt to force (so to speak) the issue. I just keep telling myself that there is no way she’ll go to college with this problem… right?

So I have no stories, that I remember… I’ve been sleep deprived going on four years now. I feel like I took forever to potty train kid uno because our life style is so hectic. Our time to dedicate to the process was never consistent enough. I’ll be potty training kid dos very soon. Any tips for really busy families?
