This was sent to us from a parent of two kids who attend Miles:
We hope you will be a part of a very special holiday fundraising event for
Miles ELC taking place on Saturday, December 12th, 2009 at the Loft Cinema.
(Doors open at 6: 30pm). See directions below.
70% of the ticket sales goes directly to our school to help fund art & music
programs.
Price: $13.50
To pay by credit card please call 520 795 7777 (The Loft Box office) – these
tickets will be placed at Will Call for the evening of the event unless you
would like to pick them up sooner.
The goal of this special concert is to underline the importance of Music and
Art Education for our city’s children. Howe Gelb (a Miles parent) has made a
lifetime’s work from just this and has manifested a unique and successful
career doing it his way. The evening will be a fundraising event put together
by parents of MILES ELC which lost its OMA support over the recent budget
crisis. Families of this amazing community, who believe the arts and music
programs at Miles play a vital role in child educational development, agree
this will be a very special night. This is a 500 seat theater and we want to
sell every ticket we can! Please purchase yours before we sell out!

So wish we were in town for this. I love Calexico, and I LOVE Jacob Valenzuela, of course Howe Gelb too!
I can’t believe Miles lost its OMA funding – OMA was one of the best things TUSD had going for it – but go parents and take matters in to your own hands (but should that really be what we have to do for something as vital as education….)
I’ll try to spread the word with other Tucson parents and music fans.

It is a travesty Kerry isn’t it? If government is of and for the people maybe it is something we should do, but all of us we, not just parents with kids in the system.
