I must admit, the Sunday I read the breaking news in the paper, I cried. My heart aches for those parents and those precious babies. What a horrible tragedy. :(

I tried searching for an organization that is taking donations for them, but didn't come up with anything. The Mexican government is paying for the funerals, and the daycare was government-run as well.

Shriners Hospital for Children Northern California is a possibility, as (so far) four of the burned children have been taken there, two 3-year-olds and two 2-year-olds. I can't find the names of any of the other hospitals, but the AZ Daily Star reported yesterday that "nine were transferred to Mexican hospitals in Ciudad Obregon in Sonora and the western Mexican city of Guadalajara, which has a special burn unit," so they are at multiple locations.

Anyone else have any thoughts/suggestions?

I agree that I am so glad our kids are somewhere safe, but I too am so sad that its not that way for every child. :-(

Yes, Renee .It makes me so glad that our kids are somewhere so safe, and so sad that it can't be that way for everyone.
I will research the donation options and if anyone knows of anything let me know and we can try to get something going.

I had a terrible time sleeping last night after readin
g the CNN story about this. I couldn't imagine this happening to my own child and to the children I care for everyday. These tragedies are the reason for simple precautions such as fire cribs and enough staff to carry children out in any kind of emergency. It's unfortunate that these people probably simply didn't have the funds for such things. I would also like to know if anyone knows where donations can be made.

Amy, I know...life is so so so precious and I feel it a million times more intensely now, after having a kid.

There were over a hundred kids and six workers.
So very sad.

Rachel, you would know about this--I would like to do some kind of donation drive for this--burn victims, or day care center improvement/rebuild funds, or funeral costs, or...Can I just put a thingie up and request PayPal funds and then figure out who to send it to in Hermosillo? Anyone have ideas?
