We wrote about this a few weeks ago, and it looks like the situation is as bad as it seemed it might be.
One TucsonMama reader, Erika, wrote to say this: “I hope you’ll agree that the Board shouldn’t be closing schools to save money. Where will that end? Plus, one of the schools they’re talking about closing is [my daughter's future] school, Rogers Elem, which is a Highly Performing school that has higher AIMS scores every year and serves autistic children. Another school they’re talking about closing, Corbett, in in a very low-income neighborhood and serves lunch year-round. ”
Our state has historically looked pretty bad when it comes to our funding for education, but it seemed that things in Pima County, at least, were looking up.
Anyone have anything to say about this? Any insider info on local politics, budget issues, city planning? What is going on here?
We’re already concerned about our kids’ options for school, and this doesn’t make us feel any better.

No news here, but lots of commiseration. Man it sucks.
It just seems like mismanagement of money to me.
Maybe they should be audited.

School closures in TUSD certainly make it seem like Arizona is now vying to get down from 49th to 50th in education among the states. We should be so proud.
You can sign this petition to protest the school closures

This group will also be holding meetings/protests in the near future…
