This is from last Sunday’s NY Times. It’s a good essay about infertility, loss, and trying to build a family.
And did you catch Terry Gross’s interview with Peggy Orenstein last summer on “Fresh Air”? I finally listened to it, and it’s great. Not once during the interview did I want to punch anyone, which is rare when it comes to discussion of fertility. The best part? When Terry asked Peggy why she thinks she finally got pregnant without any intervention after years of ART (and while pursuing adoption, bringing to life that loathed urban legend), Peggy replied that it was just luck. I was holding my breath waiting for her answer, chilled with fear that she would refer to “relaxing” or “letting go”, though by that point in the interview (and having read her book “Waiting for Daisy”) I felt sure that she wasn’t a jackass like that.

This from the NY Times article:
“It’s not vanity to want a child with my husband’s laugh and spiky blond hair, or for him to want a long-legged girl with brown hair, freckles and gaps in her teeth. It’s love. And of all the baby items we’ve had to find places to store in this apartment, that unspent love is the most unwieldy.” is what got me. Beautifully written and devastatingly sad.
On a slightly different note, I was wondering if anyone out there had experience about local domestic adoption agencies?
